Drostdy-Hof

De Oude Drostdy is in the picturesque Tulbagh Valley, 120 km north of Cape Town, South Africa.

In 1804 the district of Tulbagh was established. The Cape Dutch supreme officer of the Cape of Good Hope, Governor Jansen, requested renowned Cape architect Louis Michel Thibault to erect this magnificent building. De Drostdy was officially opened towards the end of 1806. It rates as one of his most impressive works.
In 1822 the seat of the landdrost moved to Worcester and the Drostdy passed into private ownership.

De Oude Drostdy has since had to withstand the ravages of winds, torrential rains, and the earthquake of 1969 - on occasion seemingly beyond repair. However, it was rescued by some magnificent restoration work and is now a museum of cultural history. This classic building reflects the heritage and commitment to quality that one finds in every bottle of Drostdy-Hof wine.

Today it houses a unique collection of early Cape furniture and household articles. Local artists and potters exhibit their work in the Drostdy from time to time.
